Venue DescriptionGrosvenor House Hotel is a unique venue in the heart of London in the Mayfair district that is home to the Great Room, a grand space that has hosted many prestigious events over the last century. The five-star hotel was the first hotel in London to have a separate lobby and bathroom for every bedroom when it opened in 1929, and it has remained one of the most exclusive hotels in the city since its opening. Its name comes from the fact that it was built on the site of Grosvenor House, which was the London residence for the Dukes of Westminster.
It was restored and reopened in 2008 as a JW Marriott hotel, and the modern makeover ensured it kept many of its historic features including the original wrought-iron gates. It is home to a number of refined event spaces, of which the Great Room is the finest.
This is separate to the Ballroom, and it is one of the largest of its kind in Europe with a capacity of 2,000 seated. The oldest charitable ball in the world, the Royal Caledonian Ball, has been held here since the 1930s. Incredibly, it was originally an ice rink, and it was here where the Queen learned to skate in 1933 when she was just seven years old.
